Quick Makeup Tips To Make You Feel Less Blah!

We all know that having kids means having significantly less time for yourself! When it comes to getting ready in the morning, you might find yourself having no time, being in a rush or being constantly interrupted by your kids. Finding your groove and nailing a morning routine that works for you (and your family) can be hard – so congrats if you have! If not, we’ve got some quick makeup tips to help make you feel a bit less blah, and to get ready in a flash! These tips are also perfect for getting ready quick during the busy holiday season.

  1. Find a good skincare routine, and stick to it!

The first step to streamlining your makeup routine is making sure you feel good about your skin. That way, you can wear less makeup during the day and get ready quicker in the morning! If you’re unsure about what your skin type or needs are, pop into your local beauty store for a skin consultation. That said, since shopping with a bub can be near impossible, check out somewhere with online or phone customer service, like Mecca or Go-To so you can chat to someone from the comfort of your own home. Having dedicated time for your skincare routine is also a great way to practice self-care. Particularly with your evening routine, take a few minutes to decompress, relax and pamper yourself! 

  1. Groom those brows

Brows are one of our most important features as they really do frame our face! Making time to get them styled and investing in a professional to get the initial shape of your brows right can really speed up the getting ready process in the morning. If you have a great shape to work with, filling them in won’t take as long! Also if you’re fair, it might be worth considering getting them tinted. That way, you won’t even have to worry about filling them in at all.

A tip with your brow appointments – try find somewhere close to you that’s kid friendly if you can’t get an evening or weekend appointment when someone is able to look after your babe.  And book your next appointment before you leave, you’ll be more likely stick to it and won’t have to scramble last minute when they get out of control! If you’re lucky enough not to have really full brows that require a regular professional, you might choose maintain them yourself at home.  Trim them regularly if they’re unruly and keep tweezers close by at home to keep on top of any stray hairs.

  1. A lightweight base you can quickly apply

This step is dependent on the level of coverage you desire or are comfortable with - the key is to find a base you can easily and quickly apply. We recommend something like a BB cream or lightweight foundation that can easily be blended in with fingers. Aim to find one with SPF, because if you’re like most Mums, you put sunscreen on your kids and rarely think about yourself! If you need more coverage, spot conceal in the areas you need it so it’s faster to blend out, and won’t leave you with a full face of heavy makeup.

  1. Line the tightline and waterline of your eyes

An easy way to make your lashes look thicker and give your eyes more definition is to tightline your eyes with a black eyeliner (which is applying eyeliner to the top inner rim of your eye). It’s much faster and way easier than lining your lashline!  If you find your eyes look red and tired – what with all those sleepless nights with bub – apply a nude coloured eyeliner in your waterline (the lower rim of your eye) to help conceal your redness, brighten your eyes and make your eyes look bigger and more awake. Who was up most of the night? Not you!

  1. A brightening concealer

To go hand in hand with the previous tip, if you have dark under eye circles, get yourself a good brightening concealer. Opt for one that feels lightweight but has high coverage, and lasts well without creasing. Make sure it’s one or two shades lighter than your base makeup to really brighten your under eyes. We love the Ellis Faas Concealer. If your dark circles are particularly dark, try using a salmon or peachy toned corrector underneath your concealer to help cancel out the blue and dark tones. And don’t forget to set it with a powder to prevent creasing, help it last longer and stop your mascara from transferring and smudging underneath your eyes!

  1. Loads of mascara

Speaking of mascara, you’ll want to apply loads of it! Having thick, dark and fluttery lashes is a sure-fire way to make your eyes look more awake and defined – without having to apply eyeliner! What mascara you go for depends on what your lashes are like naturally. Whether you need more volume or length, opt for the mascara to cater to those needs. For maximum impact, curl your lashes and use a waterproof mascara to ensure the curl stays put, and you don’t get any smudging or transfer no matter what hits you throughout the day (literally!)!

  1. A tinted, hydrating lip product with SPF

There’s nothing worse than trying to apply lip colour over dry lips! Kill two birds with one stone, and opt for a tinted hydrating lip product that you can easily throw on without a mirror. Even better if it has SPF in it to ensure your lips are protected when you’re out and about. We love the Mecca Lip De-Luscious Glide!
